seniorspectrumnewspaper – Prime Video has officially cast Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in its highly anticipated Tomb Raider series. More than two years after the project’s initial announcement. Turner—best known for her role in Game of Thrones—steps into the iconic adventurer’s shoes. Turner acknowledges the “massive shoes to fill,” paying tribute to Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Who previously portrayed Lara Croft in film adaptations. She expressed excitement for fans to “see what we have cooking” in the new series.

Filming is scheduled to begin on January 19, 2026, confirming the project’s progression from development to production. Although the release date remains unconfirmed, the start of filming signals that the series is on track. Turner will bring her own interpretation to the character, which is expected to refresh the Tomb Raider franchise for both longtime fans and new audiences. This adaptation promises to blend action, adventure, and drama while honoring the legacy of the beloved video game heroine.

Alongside Turner’s casting, Prime Video announced Chad Hodge will co-showrun the series with Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Who was revealed as creator over a year ago. Hodge brings experience from acclaimed projects such as Good Behavior and Single All the Way. Waller-Bridge, famous for creating Fleabag, also has a strong background in action dramas. She created Killing Eve, co-wrote a James Bond film. And acted in the latest Indiana Jones movie—a franchise that inspired Tomb Raider’s adventurous tone.

Amazon is further expanding the Tomb Raider universe by publishing the next game in the franchise. Developed by Crystal Dynamics, the studio responsible for mainline titles since 2003, this move strengthens the brand’s multi-platform presence. Together, the new series and upcoming game position Tomb Raider for renewed success across television and gaming. Attracting both longtime fans and new audiences globally.
