seniorspectrumnewspaper – Canva has announced a powerful addition to its platform—a new AI-powered video generation feature named Create a Video Clip. This tool is part of the Canva AI suite and enables users to generate short videos directly from text prompts. The feature is backed by Google’s advanced Veo 3 text-to-video model, offering cinematic-quality visuals and native audio generation. With this integration, Canva aims to make video creation fast, simple, and accessible to more creators.
The Sydney-based company revealed the update via its blog on Wednesday. Canva is gradually positioning itself as more than a design platform, now expanding further into AI-assisted multimedia content creation. The new video feature is available to Canva Pro, Teams, and Enterprise subscribers, as well as Canva Nonprofit users. Subscribers to Leonardo.ai—also owned by Canva—can access it as well. This addition strengthens Canva’s place in the growing AI content creation space.

How Canva’s AI Video Tool Works and Who Can Use It
To begin using the Create a Video Clip feature, users can navigate to the Canva AI section located at the bottom of the homepage sidebar. From there, selecting the “Create a Video Clip” option opens the video prompt interface. Users enter a description of the scene they want to generate, and the tool produces an eight-second video clip complete with sound.
Canva generates each video at a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Users can adjust the resolution, but the aspect ratio stays fixed. They can also copy the videos into other Canva design formats, allowing more flexibility in how they use the clips. Currently, Canva limits users to five video generations per month. The company plans to increase this limit in future updates.
This feature is available exclusively to paid users, including Canva Pro (₹500 per month or ₹4,000 annually), Teams, Enterprise, and nonprofit accounts. Free-tier users do not yet have access.
Fast, Realistic Results and Built-In Editing Tools
Gadgets 360 reported hands-on experience with the new feature, confirming that videos generated matched the text prompts with impressive accuracy. Video clips were produced in under two minutes and included native background audio. This aligns with Canva’s goal to simplify high-quality video creation for users with no video editing experience.
After generation, the clip opens directly in Canva’s Video Editor. Here, users can refine their video using tools already familiar to Canva users—such as trimming, overlays, transitions, and text insertion. This seamless workflow from creation to editing supports quick content production for marketing, education, and social media.
The videos are not only visually realistic but also cinematic in quality, a result of Google’s Veo 3 model. This helps users achieve professional results with minimal effort or technical knowledge.
Safety and Moderation Backed by Canva Shield
Canva has built safety into its new video feature by integrating it with Canva Shield, the company’s internal moderation system. Canva Shield scans both the input prompts and the generated video content to prevent harmful, unsafe, or inappropriate outputs. This ensures a safe creative environment, especially for educational and nonprofit users who may work with younger audiences.
The company emphasizes that all content goes through real-time checks, helping to maintain community standards and responsible AI use. This addition reflects growing industry concerns about misuse of generative video technology and reinforces Canva’s commitment to ethical AI deployment.
Canva Expands AI Portfolio with Intent to Acquire MagicBrief
Alongside the launch of the video generation tool, Canva also announced its plan to acquire MagicBrief, an AI-driven creative intelligence platform. While financial terms have not been disclosed, the acquisition aligns with Canva’s broader strategy of expanding its AI content capabilities.
MagicBrief offers insights and analytics for creative teams, helping them improve campaign performance using machine learning. Once finalized, this acquisition could enhance Canva’s offerings for marketers, advertisers, and design teams by adding data-driven tools to the platform’s creative suite.
With the addition of AI-powered video generation and the potential integration of MagicBrief, Canva continues to evolve into a full-featured content creation hub for individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations alike.
