NVIDIA Plans Advanced AI Chip for Chinese Market

seniorspectrumnewspaper – NVIDIA is reportedly creating a new AI chip designed specifically for the Chinese market, according to Reuters. The chip, tentatively called B30A, is said to be more powerful than NVIDIA’s current H20 model. It will use the company’s latest Blackwell architecture, which can deliver performance speeds between seven and thirty times faster than previous AI platforms.

Unlike the dual-die design of Blackwell Ultra GPUs, the B30A will feature a single-die layout, placing all main components on one piece of silicon. Although it will offer about half the computing power of the Blackwell Ultra series, this design improves efficiency and suits the needs of targeted users.

The chip is expected to come equipped with high-bandwidth memory and NVLink technology, enhancing data transfer speeds between processors. These features make the B30A a powerful AI solution, despite being a scaled-down version compared to NVIDIA’s top-tier GPUs.

This development follows recent regulatory tensions. The Chinese government reportedly discouraged local companies such as Alibaba, Tencent, and Bytedance from purchasing the H20 chip. This came after US export restrictions blocked sales of NVIDIA’s AI chips to China due to concerns over potential military applications.

Regulatory Pressure and Export Controls Influence NVIDIA’s Chip Strategy

Earlier in 2025, the US government imposed restrictions on NVIDIA’s ability to sell H20 chips to China, citing fears that the hardware could assist Chinese military AI development. This led to a freeze on chip purchases by Chinese tech giants while national security reviews took place.

In July, NVIDIA announced it had received approval to export H20 chips under government licenses. Later reports indicated the company agreed to share 15 percent of its profits from those sales with the US government. However, despite the approval, China continued limiting H20 chip use, especially in government-related projects.

The B30A chip appears to be NVIDIA’s strategic response to this complex environment. By offering a chip optimized for compliance and usefulness in China, NVIDIA aims to retain its market presence despite trade and regulatory challenges.

Reuters says NVIDIA is finalizing B30A’s specifications and hopes to send sample units to Chinese clients by September 2025. Whether the chip will receive full export clearance remains uncertain.

Former President Donald Trump recently mentioned that NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang will meet with him again about the matter. This suggests ongoing high-level discussions on export and national security concerns.

If approved, the B30A could help NVIDIA maintain its position in the competitive Chinese AI market. How the company navigates these geopolitical and regulatory challenges will shape its role in AI development worldwide.
